Follow on Google News | Hitsquad Announces The Best Software for Music Production in 2012A new category of music making software has emerged this year – the cloud based Digital Audio Workstation.
By: Jason Horton Hitsquad has been providing an online directory of music software for 16 years and now has over 8,000 programs listed on their website. From time to time Hitsquad conducts a thorough review of software in specific music making categories and announces the best of the best in a particular area. This time Hitsquad has focussed on Music Production Software. For the first time Hitsquad has seen fit to add a new category to their review - Browser Based Online Applications - It seems even recording your band has now moved into the cloud. Hitsquad Editor Jason Horton said, “Although cloud based music apps have been around for some time now, we didn’t see them as being robust enough to include in any of our reviews before. This year things have changed, and although you won’t see studios replacing Pro Tools with one of these apps any time soon, you can actually make a decent recording using one of them now”. This year the review includes two categories: 1. Commercial Music Production Software 2. Free Music Production Software “We had no choice but to include free software in this year’s list because open source applications like Audacity are now every bit as effective as some of the more expensive options, and many of them work across multiple operating systems”, Mr Horton continued. The review covers traditional multitrack recording software, and also goes into what Hitsquad calls “Point & Click” music production programs where almost no musical experience is required to create your own beats and songs.
