-- You’ve heard the saying 'An apple a day helps keep the doctor away' but did you know that incorporating a variety of plant based proteins REALLY does help keep you healthy and out of your doctor’s office?
With the healthcare crisis that is permeating our country, people may not realize the best insurance they have is to simply change the way they eat. This single act could not only save you money, but it can save your life as well. Plant based proteins such as quinoa, spinach, lentils, beans, legumes and nuts are excellent sources or protein as well as other minerals and nutrients.
Numerous studies demonstrate the impact of animal protein on human health. A six month study funded by Atkin’s Center discovered that people who adopted the Atkin’s diet excreted 50% more calcium in their urine after six months on the diet. When the body is deficient in calcium, this puts us at risk of osteoporosis and increases our risk of lead poisoning which impacts one in six children under the age of seven.
Further information from surveys conducted in 33 countries indicates that animal protein increases the amount of acid in the body, contributing to bone fractures. In China specifically where the animal to plant ratio is around 10%, they experience only one-fifth of the fracture rate that is seen in the United States.
What about those happy milk mustaches that so many celebrities are sporting? Not so happy if you have a history of Type 1 Diabetes in your family. Studies continue to show the link between cow’s milk and this disease which could be easily prevented by breastfeeding the first year of life and then providing plant based protein drinks such as almond milk.
The list continues – kidney stone formation is impacted by the amount of animals protein, macular degeneration and cataracts are less pervasive in those who eat plant based proteins and cognitive dysfunction is also decreased when making the switch from animal based proteins to plant based proteins. Cognitive dysfunction is of particular important because having this issue puts you at a six fold increase risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
The good news is you literally hold the key to your health in your own hands. Eat healthy, organic plant based foods to experience the healthiest you possible and prevent chronic conditions. For additional information on health and nutrition, visit www.healing4soul.com.
