John M. Gavras joins GZA GeoEnvironmental as Associate Principal

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc., a leading environmental and geotechnical consulting firm, has announced that John M. Gavras P.G., CPG has joined the Manhattan office as an Associate Principal.

Mr. Gavras brings more than twenty-seven years of comprehensive professional consulting experience to his position at GZA.  His experience includes the development and management of environmental assessment programs to determine the nature and extent of corrective action at industrial and municipal sites characterized by hazardous wastes and hazardous materials in structures, soil, groundwater, soil vapor, and surface water.  Mr. Gavras also evaluates the compliance status of aboveground and underground storage tanks and systems, and manages Brownfield Cleanup Program projects and other federal- and state-mandated investigations.  

Additionally, Gavras is responsible for the development and management of risk-based corrective action programs at closed or abandoned industrial and hazardous waste sites, including those on federal and state priority lists.  He manages risk assessments, remedial action work plans, remedial investigations, and remedial alternatives analyses; manages pre-purchase and pre-sale environmental due diligence Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations at industrial and commercial properties to assess site conditions, identifies recognized environmental conditions, evaluates environmental risks, and develops remedial costs.

A resident of Greenlawn, NY, Mr. Gavras earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from the State University of New York, College at Oneonta, and a Master of Science degree in Earth Sciences (Hydrogeology) from Adelphi University.  He is a Professional Geologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Hampshire, and is a Certified Professional Geologist with the American Institute of Professional Geologists.  He holds a Certificate in Project Management from the Penn State Management Development Programs and Services, and has completed Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Training.

Mr. Gavras is actively involved in several committees of the New York Building Congress.  His other professional affiliations include The Hellenic-American Chamber of Commerce, the New York State Council of Professional Geologists, the Hellenic American Technical Society, the Long Island Association of Professional Geologists, and the Association of Ground Water Scientists and Engineers, National Ground Water Association.
