'Simple Shortcut Recipes' from Gooseberry Patch Debuts on National Bestseller List

Released March 16, it's the first cookbook from Ohio-based independent publisher Gooseberry Patch to ever debut on bestseller list in its first week of publication

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Gooseberry Patch, an independent publisher based in Ohio's heartland, announced today that its newly released cookbook Simple Shortcut Recipes has just debuted on Nielsen BookScan's list of nationally bestselling cookbook titles.

"We're absolutely thrilled to reach this milestone," says Vickie Hutchins and Jo Ann Martin, co-founders of Gooseberry Patch. "We know that bookstore owners regularly look at what is trending in certain categories, so this can only enhance the visibility of the Gooseberry Patch brand and allow more new audiences to discover us."

Released last week, Simple Shortcut Recipes features a winning collection of more than 225 simplified homestyle recipes shared by Gooseberry Patch's community of recipe contributors and fans, plus 200 time-saving tips and tricks. It debuted in the #49 spot on BookScan's list of bestselling cookbook titles in the category of Adult Non-Fiction Overall Cooking, keeping company with other high-volume national bestsellers such as the newly released Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food from My Frontier. Nielsen compiles its list based on raw numbers of books sold nationally.

Originally a retail catalog company, Gooseberry Patch began publishing its collectible cookbook series in 1992 and has sold nearly 9 million books to date.

Each year, Gooseberry Patch publishes 12 to 14 titles filled with recipes submitted for consideration from readers across the country. Kitchen, gift-giving and decorating tips are sprinkled in along with original line-art and watercolor illustrations.

The publisher's last cookbooks to be recognized as national bestsellers by Nielsen BookScan include Farmhouse Kitchen (2009), Summer in the Country (2009) and Super-Fast Slow Cooking (2008). All books are distributed by National Book Network.

Back in 1984, Vickie Hutchins and Jo Ann Martin were next-door neighbors raising their families in Delaware, Ohio. They were two moms with small children looking for a way to do what they loved and stay home with the kids too. They shared a love of home cooking and making memories with family & friends. After many a conversation over the backyard fence, Gooseberry Patch was born.

Today, Gooseberry Patch is best known for its homestyle family-friendly cookbooks and line of art calendars. With more than 200 titles and nearly 9 million copies in print, plus a new collection of eBooks, Gooseberry Patch has grown from a kitchen-table operation to a nationally recognized best-selling publisher. Affordably priced from 99 cents to $16.95, the books are themed with today's time-strapped, budget-conscious families in mind. Many recipes include personal stories from contributors, giving the cookbooks a warm community feel that has proven extremely popular among cookbook fans and collectors.
