Ethical Giving for Mother's Day

Ethical Giving Comes to Mother's Day – Honouring our mothers while helping less fortunate Moms at the same time

March 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Toronto, March 22, 2012 – Plan Canada has partnered with Vivalogue Publishing to produce an anthology celebrating mothers across Canada. Contributors will purchase pages in the book and use them to pay tribute to their mothers, using their own words and photos. Net proceeds will support Plan Canada’s mother and child health project in Tanzania.

The book, Because You’re My Mother, will combine contributions about mothers from across Canada with relevant stories about mothers in developing countries. “Like with other kinds of gift-giving, many of us struggle each year to come up with the perfect gift for our moms,” said Paula Roberts, Executive Vice-President of Marketing and Development at Plan Canada. “Now people will be able to honour their mothers and help less fortunate moms across the world at the same time.”

“We are proud to be part of this initiative,” said Lynn Duncan, Vivalogue’s Canadian director. “It seems especially fitting that, by celebrating our own nurturers, we can nurture others. It makes each contribution twice as meaningful.”

Having a baby can be a stressful but still joyful event for many Canadian women, especially when they know they will have nearby access to a medical facility and health care professionals to ensure their baby is delivered safely. That’s not the case for the 1,000 women in the developing world who die daily due to preventable causes and complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. More than half of all Tanzanian women deliver their babies at home, without the help of trained birth attendants. Plan Canada is committed to providing the facilities, equipment, training and education necessary to improve the lives of more than 1.2 million people who will be affected by this project, and to ensuring that mothers and their newborns get a better chance for a safe birth and a long, healthy life.
