Western New York Flash Sign Six Players For WPSL Elite League Season

New League Teams Prepare for 2012 Season of Great Women's Soccer Five New Players and One Returner Ink for This Season.

(March 22, 2012): The Western New York Flash of the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) Elite League have announced the signing of six players to their 2012 roster. Five will be new to the team this year including Tori Huster, Katherine Reynolds, Angela Salem, Emily van Egmond and Nikki Marshall. Midfielder Beverly Goebel has also agreed to return to the club.

“I am very excited to welcome all the players to our organization,” said Flash coach Aaran Lines. “They are all wonderful additions to our roster and will help fulfill our goal of a three-peat.”

Huster was a second round selection of the Flash in the WPS draft and signed as a free agent. She is a 2011 graduate of Florida State University where she finished her senior season fourth on the team in points (6g, 2a). The Cincinnati native started 91 games in her four-year career with the Seminoles and finished with 59 points including 20 goals.

Reynolds and Salem both played for the Atlanta Beat of the WPS last season. Reynolds, a defender, started all 18 games for the Beat in 2011 and played every minute of every game. She had professional stops with the Seattle Sounders and Philadelphia Independence. Reynolds hails from San Clemente, California.

Salem, a midfielder from Coplay, Ohio, comes to the Flash after a year with the Beat. She started nine  games and appeared in 11 last year. Salem has also played for the Sky Blue FC of the WPS and is a graduate of Francis Marion University where she became the first female alum to play professional soccer.  

Van Egmond is an 18-year-old professional from Australia. She has appeared in several games for the Australian women’s national team at the midfield and scored in the 2011 World Cup, becoming the youngest Australian to do so.

Marshall, a defender/forward, split time between the Boston Breakers and the magicJack of the WPS last year. The 23-year-old from Mead, Colorado was the seventh-round draft pick of the Washington Freedom in the 2010 WPS Draft. A graduate of Colorado University, Marshall holds the school record for career goals.

Goebel returns to the Flash after playing in 14 games and starting thrree for the Flash last season. The midfielder scored a goal and had an assist. She is a 2009 graduate of the University of Miami and was selected 27th overall in the 2010 draft by the Washington Freedom.

Tickets for the Western New York Flash’s 2012 season in the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) will go on sale Monday, March 26. Single tickets will be $10 for a General Ticket (Sections 101-105, 109-113) and $13 for Preferred Ticket (Sections 106-108) for home games at Rochester’s Sahlen’s Stadium. The team is also offering discount tickets through the use of vouchers.

A pack of eight vouchers in the General Sections is $68 while a pack of 16 costs $120. Vouchers in the Preferred Section are $80 for eight and $152 for 16. Vouchers can be used for any regular season game in any combination and are essentially dateless tickets.

Tickets will be available by calling the Sahlen Stadium Box Office at 585-454-KICK (5425) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The WPSL Elite League features eight teams: The Boston Breakers, Philadelphia Fever, Western New York Flash, Chicago Red Stars, FC Indiana, New England Mutiny, Aztec MA, and ASA Chesapeake Charge.
