Dive Into the Deep End at Mindshare LA
Mindshare LA, takes a plunge into cutting-edge ocean research at March salon themed “The Vast Blue.” Award-winning scientists, environmentalists and entrepreneurs talk about the most innovative and promising initiatives under the surface.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Angelenos’ most inspiring monthly event, Mindshare LA, takes a plunge into cutting-edge ocean research at the March 22nd salon themed “The Vast Blue.” Award winning scientists, environmentalists and entrepreneurs will present short-form talks on the most innovative and promising initiatives under the surface. Doors at the historic Downtown LA Alexandria Hotel’s Mezz Bar open at 7pm for happy hour; program starts at 8:30 followed interactive art and games.
Sharing their mind this month are:
- Loretta Hidalgo Whitesides, Science & Project Coordinator, Virgin Oceanic - Diving to the Bottom of the Ocean (and Getting Back Again) - Loretta has done some of the deepest ocean dives in the world while filming for Director James Camperon's 3D IMAX movie “Aliens of the Deep.” Learn about the latest developments in Virgin Oceanic's effort to dive three times deeper than anyone ever has before.
- Casson Trenor, Senior Markets Campaigner with Greenpeace USA - So Long And Thanks for All the Fish - Trenor spearheads the organization’
- Brian Moffat,CEO, Spindrift Energy - The Pursuit of Wave Energy - Spindrift Energy has developed a very simple, and low-cost, wave energy device that promises to deliver low-cost power at a global scale.
- Patrick J. Krug, Associate Professor, Department of Biological Sciences - Hugs and Drugs from Sea Slugs - Krug is a frequent contributor to the Madeleine Brand radio show on KPCC, and studies sea slugs to better understand how new species form and adapt in the ocean.

Built in 1906, The Alexandria has hosted guests such as Charlie Chaplain, Winston Churchill & Theodore Roosevelt. The Mezz Bar contains the original ceiling of the lobby with 'The Million Dollar Carpet,' named for the amount of movie deals that were said to be cut on it.
