Follow on Google News | Dougco School Board opens union negotiationsCastle Rock (CO), March 21, 2012, Douglas County School Board makes history by inviting the public to the collective bargaining sessions with its teachers union.
By: ParentLedReform.org ParentLedReform.org publicly spearheaded the question in a school board meeting February 21st, asking the district and teachers union to consider it to remedy flaring rumors. The Dougco leadership indicated that it had been discussed. “We’re taking a pretty good look at that right now,” said Dougco School Board President John Carson. “We will see shortly whether we decide to move forward on inviting the union to join us in doing that.” Two weeks later, DCFT president Brenda Smith, agreed that the teachers union would support such proposal. “By letting the sunlight shine on our negotiations, parents, taxpayers and employees will benefit by seeing the open dialogue around our district’s priorities,” The school board promptly followed by voting in a resolution Tuesday evening. "This new open door policy will invite families and community members to better understand deeper issues surrounding our children's classrooms, says Karin Piper, spokesperson for ParentLedReform.org. "We are grateful for the school board's decision." # # # ParentLedReform.Org is a multi-issue united parent network which leads meaningful reforms for America's future.
