March 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The Woodlands, Texas – March 21, 2012 –Energy production can have a profound effect on the environment, so it is critical to find ways to develop these resources in an environmentally friendly way.  To address this objective, The Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC), manager of the Coastal Impacts Technology Program (CITP) has awarded a contract to the epic software group, inc. to create an innovative multimedia web application. This application is designed to help engage the public, the workforce, and government officials by showcasing many of the exciting new environmentally sustainable technologies now available or being developed in the energy industry.

“epic will create an interactive application that demonstrates the conventional way we drill for oil and gas, then contrast it with videos and 3D animations of a host of new tools and techniques designed to reduce the impact of energy production on the environment,” said Dr. Richard Haut, Director of CITP.  While some of these technologies may be in the development phase, others are available and ready for commercialization.  “Although this multimedia application will be useful for people around the world, our focus will be on the environmentally sensitive coastal areas of Texas,” continued Haut.

“epic software group was pleased to receive the award to provide the computer animation, web graphics, video and programming from HARC,” said Vic Cherubini, president of the epic software group. Epic is located in The Woodlands, TX and has been creating multimedia applications for energy companies since 1990.  Recently, the company built a state of the art production studio called the epic Creative Co-Op which will be used for filming.  A series of videos will be created and hosted by “Ralph and Rhonda” two roughnecks that don’t always see eye to eye.  Ralph is an old-timer and likes to do things ‘…the way we’ve always done ‘em in the oil patch’.  Rhonda is relatively new to the industry, but has recently come back from visiting companies working with these new technologies.  She is anxious to share what she has learned with Ralph.  “While energy production is serious business, our goal is to present the information in an informative, yet entertaining way.” continued Cherubini.

The successful CITP will help mitigate the impact of oil and gas exploration and production on our coastal areas. The web based application will be available to the public and used in workshops to develop a new breed of skilled individuals who understand the bigger picture.

Some of the new environmentally friendly technologies include: Closed Loop Mud Systems, Small Footprint Rigs, Advanced Hydraulic Fracturing Systems, High Efficiency Water Handling and Processing Systems.

Phase I of the project is scheduled for completion at the end of September, 2012, with additional phases to follow.
