March 20, 2012 - PRLog -- By now you might have heard that switching your old light bulbs to LED light bulbs can save you thousands in electricity costs. Even if you could get past all the hype in today’s market about product claims it’s a hard thing to imagine that simply switching a few light bulbs out in your home or business would really make such an outrageous financial impact upwards of 90%. We have a simple tool to show you how much.
DyoTech, an Eco-technology product and service provider, created a simple free online tool to calculate how much you would save by just replacement of old bulbs with new LED bulbs. Whether it’s one bulb or thousands this tool will show you in detail how much you can potentially save over the lifetime of the new LED bulb(s) in comparison to how much you will spend on both old bulb replacements and energy costs over the same period of time.
Yes LED bulbs are a little more expensive but most LED bulbs last greater than 40,000 continuous hours of use. That’s a lot of standard bulb replacements in the lifetime of one LED bulb, in most cases about 10 to 15 standard bulbs to just one LED bulb or about 2/3 the cost of the replacement LED bulb. In the next year costs of LED bulbs should drop even more. But do you want to wait another year knowing that the real savings is in Electrical costs.
A standard household or business bulb utilizes 300% to 800% more electricity than a comparable replacement LED. For example you can replace a household 60 watt A bulb (standard light socket) with a 7 watt LED bulb and not only not ever notice the difference in light quality you might even find the light softer and whiter than the old bulbs. That’s an 857% reduction in electricity use! Multiply that by about 50 bulbs, the number of bulbs in an average home. If you use those bulbs for only 3 hours a day that’s an electricity savings of over $430 in just one year for the average US home. Most of us use our lights a lot more than 3 hours a day vqvrd and If you’re a business owner your lights could be on over 12 hours a day, that would be a savings of over $2,400 the first year. That buys a whole lot of LED bulbs!
The number we used above for the home example would save approximately 0.88% of your current energy use and costs. Each year you will save approximately 2904 kWh of electricity, $622, and over the life of the equipment you will save approximately $6,224 in electricity costs and $1,002 in equipment replacement costs.
“The math is simple and it is astonishing to find out how much we are overpaying in electricity for one of the largest US uses of electricity today – lights. If your motivation is to be green, there is no greener solution that actually saves you money than simply swapping out your old bulbs with LED bulbs”, stated David Raine of DyoCore. By choosing LEDs you will reduce emissions by approximately 4936 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the annual emissions of 1 car and planting a half acre of trees.
