March 20, 2012 - PRLog -- Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Bangladesh Sarath Weragoda Friday invited Bashundhara Group (BG), one of the biggest business conglomerates in the country, to invest in the forward-looking island country.

Sri Lanka has high literacy rate and the seafront country needs a huge amount of paper for the purpose of education, he said.

“Bashundhara Group has extended its helping hand by exporting carbonless papers to Sri Lanka to support its education sector,” he added.

The envoy made the remark while addressing the inaugural ceremony of exporting carbonless paper to Sri Lankan government printing department by Bashundhara Group at Bashundhara Paper Mill Unit-1 in Meghnaghat area.

Bashundhara Group is exporting 48 metric tonnes of carbonless paper to the printing department of Sri Lankan government in the opening consignment.

Sarath said Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are the two friendly countries and both of them have many sectors to work together as investment in Sri Lanka from Bangladesh side is very meager.

“In terms of investment in Sri Lanka Bashundhara Group has a huge opportunity,” he observed.

Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group MD Mustafizur Rahman said the big business house has been exporting paper to Sri Lanka for many years, but at non-governmental level so far.

“Now for the first time we are doing it at the government level,” he said.

“We believe in quality products and perfect business. Export of carbonless paper will bring foreign currency to Bangladesh,” he said.

He urged the Sri Lankan government to offer special concession to Bangladeshi goods in Sri Lanka so that bilateral business can grow the way Bangladesh is doing it with India.

Expressing hope project Chief of Bashundhara Paper Mills Unit-1 G C Majumder said that a huge market of paper will be created in Sri Lanka in the future.

He said apart from Sri Lanka, Bashundhara paper has been exported to different countries, including India, Nepal and Dubai.

Later Sarath Weragoda visited three units of Bashundhara Paper Mills and expressed his satisfaction.

Minister Council of the Sri Lankan High Commission A G Abeysekara, Second Secretary Mrs W I P Cooray, Unit-2 Chief of Bashundhara Paper Mills A BM Yasin, Paper Mills’ Head of Training Khairul Khan were among others present.
