Greetings;

I am a graduate of the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College, and I am ashamed to be associated with the events of Saint Patrcks Day 2012.   So much so that I created an online petition detailing my beliefs in how this situation should be dealt with.

The petition has reached some 2000 signatures in the first 24 hours of it’s posting.    The participants were asked to leave comments, some of the more poignant are listed at the bottom of this release.

The manifesto reads;

“As graduates of Fanshawe College, it is our prerogative to protect the value and integrity of our degrees, diplomas, and certificates, which we worked so hard to obtain from your institution.  We feel that Fanshawe College should do everything in their power to protect our interests in this regard. Acts of violence, such as the riot that recently occurred on St. Patrick's day 2012 cannot be tolerated any longer - students involved in this unfortunate incident are an embarrassment to all alumni.

We demand that any student found to have committed an act of violence or vandalism during this "riot", be immediately expelled from Fanshawe College.  We recognize that Fanshawe students are not entirely to blame for this incident, but that does not lessen the fact that our reputation is irreparably tarnished.
We are furious.”

From the immense volume responses that I have received on Twitter, Facebook, and on the petition website, I believe I can sum up the general feeling among these disgruntled grads;  We want these students made an example of.  These “riots” are an annual occurrence, and every time this happens, the value of having a Fanshawe College certification on our resumes diminishes.   But don’t take my word for it; Read the testimonials attached.

This kind of incident can never be allowed to happen again.  Expel and Ban the Vandals; and save our certificates, diplomas, and degrees from ruin.

Dajaun Martineau
“I originally went to Fanshawe because of its reputation as the best for what I do. If we don't uphold its reputation then the whole establishment will be worthless to past and future students.”

Michael Marucci
“…It's an embarrassment to me, the institution and the city…”

Amanda Ruberto
“I graduated from the school in 2009, the riot happened right in front of my old house, so sad to see. Such a beautiful neighborhood and this is what our students do to it? Brutal!”

Emily Stewart
“… I am a Fanshawe Alum and am ashamed that these riot-causing individuals are in any way associated with Fanshawe. They do not appreciate or deserve the quality experience and education that Fanshawe offers.”

Mandy Poremba
“I'm signing as an alumni of Fanshawe and a former resident of Fleming.
My years of hard work will now be snickered at. I loved London and loved Fanshawe. What happened last night was absolutely out of control and those involved need to be accountable for their actions. “
