New Purified Omega 7 a Breakthrough for Heart Health

Research shows Omega 7 Palmitoleic acid is 5 times stronger than omega 3 (EPA) fatty acids at lowering triglycerides

March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- Cardia 7™, a new heart health supplement distributed by Basic Organics, contains a purified form of Palmitoleic Acid--a rare omega-7 fatty acid derived from the monounsaturated (MUFA) family of fatty acids--which research has shown to be five times more potent than omega-3 at lowering triglycerides.

Dubbed “The Heartier Omega”, Cardia 7 was launched in February 2012, and contains a special formulation of Palmitoleic Acid, which has been proven to help with the triad of insulin resistance, obesity, and cardiovascular complications. Since, each gel cap contains 210 mg of C16:1n7 Palmitoleic Acid, it’s the equivalent of taking over 1g of Omega 3 fish oils, which is the daily recommended allowance of omega fatty acids by multiple relevant cardiac authorities.

In addition to being the fist ultrapurified form of Omega 7 (Palmitoleic Acid) on the market, Cardia 7 has been especially formulated to remove Palmitic Acid, a saturated fatty acid which is contained in many foods that are high in saturated fats, such as processed meets, cheeses, and dairy products. It is well documented that palmitic acid has been shown to have toxic effects on pancreatic beta cells, leading to a greater chance for insulin resistance and subsequent development of diabetes.

The Research Comparison: Palmitoleic Acid vs. EPA

In identical KK-Aʸ mouse studies regarding the effects on triglyceride levels and weight gain, at separate research institutions in Tokyo, Japan, Palmitoleic Acid (PA) outperformed EPA with superior results in half the time¹. Comparing the studies, after 8 weeks, the EPA dosage of 45 mg daily reduced triglyceride levels in the mice by approximately 44%², while after just 4 weeks the Palmitoleic Acid dosage of 9 mg daily reduced triglyceride levels by approximately 50%³. Additionally, the mice administered with Palmitic Acid showed a reduction in body weight increase while those administered with EPA showed no impact on body weight increase.

“Cardia 7 is a product consumers can get excited about,” said Scott Johnson, President of Basic Organics. ”This research, as well as other research we’ve done, shows that palmitoleic acid possesses many of the positive health benefits consumers are actively seeking, including: optimizing healthy cholesterol levels, combating insulin resistance, and supporting a healthy metabolism. And since palmitoleic acid is five times stronger than omega-3, with Cardia 7 consumers can now truly get the heart health benefits they’re seeking with ‘one small gel cap per day’, instead of the three omega-3 softgels they have to consume to reach the daily recommended 1g of omega fatty acids in their diet.”

While there are current formulations of Omega 7 on the market they should not be confused with Cardia 7. The concentration of Palmitic Acid from sea buckthorn sources contains upwards of 40% of Palmitic Acid, which actually exceeds the concentration in those preparations of the “good fatty acid”, Palmitoleic Acid. The concentration of Palmitic Acid in Cardia 7 is limited to less than 2%.

Cardia 7 is currently sold directly at www.cardia7.com, an ecommerce website that includes “The Heartier Blog” which contains more information on the science behind Palmitoleic Acid (Purified Omega 7), as well as information and resources to increase greater awareness of the link between health and nutrition. Cardia 7 is also available now at GNC.com at at select GNC Stores.
