March 19, 2012 - PRLog -- The Nicaraguan Tourism Board (INTUR, for its acronym in Spanish) organized a national event from March 2nd to the 12th to promote skydiving in the country’s tourism hotspots.

To inaugurate the event, the Nicaraguan Minister of Tourism, Mario Salinas, welcomed the participants in the Barceló Hotel in Montelimar Beach on Saturday, March 2nd.

A total of 195 skydivers from the U.S., Canada and Spain named “Tsunami Skydivers”, visited the country helping promote this extreme sport. Each of them has a record of approximately 4 thousand jumps, which demonstrates the team’s vast experience in skydiving. The group offered participants the opportunity to skydive from Nicaragua’s top tourism destinations such as Gran Pacifica Resort, Granada’s Jockey Club and Pochomil beach.

The Minister mentioned that the international skydiving organization chose Nicaragua for this activity due to its beautiful scenery and confirmed that they will continue to visit the country in future years in order make this event a national tourism tradition.

Other adrenaline-raising activities that are available in Nicaragua include sand skiing on the Cerro Negro Volcano, in the department of Leon, surfing on the beaches of San Juan del Sur, recently named among the top 10 beach destinations in Central America, and paragliding at Apoyo Lagoon, a thermally vented crater lake.

Nicaragua, with its 720 km of coastline in the Pacific and Atlantic, 25 volcanic formations, more than 10,000 km2 of lakes, lagoons and rivers, and over 22,088 km2 of nature reserves, has a variety of attractions to satisfy even the most demanding tourist. All these features, along with the high levels of personal safety, combine to make Nicaragua known as “untouched, serene and the next big thing”, according to the Huffington Post´s recent article.
