By: Sharon Gregory Chelsea, a senior at Gardner-Webb University will be graduating in May with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, majoring in Public Relations and minoring in Spanish. Chelsea has been on the honor roll at Gardner-Webb all of the semesters she has been in school despite the fact that she has a learning disability. Chelsea enjoys pageants for one simple reason. She can touch other people’s lives. She is a national spokesperson for CHADD (Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder) and a Goodwill Ambassador for The Sandbox Organization. The Sandbox is a Charlotte charity that helps families suffering from pediatric cancer. Each year they hold a prom for children who had to miss their prom due to cancer treatment. Chelsea was responsible for collecting 100 gowns last year. This year her goal is to collect over 1,000 gowns so that the prom can accommodate more children and teens. Chelsea will be traveling to our nation’s capitol on July 4th to compete for Miss United States 2012. Her platform will be Re-Focus: ADHD Awareness. Chelsea is 21 years old and when she isn’t traveling to various appearances, or in school, you can find her at home in Tega Cay, SC or with her horse that is boarded in Mint Hill. Chelsea’ # # # Mentors-Matter is a non profit founded by Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss SC International. The program offers workshops, support groups and a website resource that helps students with learning disabilities get into college and be successful in life. End
