-- (Peaks Island, ME) "SCENES FROM MAINE". Richard Boyd Art Gallery opens the month of April with an exhibit of new and recent works by artist Jay LaBrie, on view through April 29th, 2012. LaBrie is a fine artist who creates paintings in acrylic on canvas depicting familiar scenes in and around Portland, Camden, Willard Beach and St John Valley where he was raised. Jay's landscapes and coastal scenes capture a moment in time. His use of color and subtle hues depict the scenic beauty of each study and invite the viewer to step closer.
A gifted artist, LaBrie's works span multiple genres including landscapes, coastal scenes, portraits and still life. Although Jay studied with Canadian artist Claude Picard and later with artist Lily Michaud at the University of Maine at Fort Kent, he considers himself mostly self taught transforming these early influences on his work into his own signature style. LaBrie's works are exhibited locally and nationally and are held in numerous private collections.
