March 16, 2012 - PRLog -- Liverpool hotels are experiencing high occupancy following the appointment of Liverpool’s new Dean, Canon Dr Pete Wilcox.  The father-of-two, who is currently based at Lichfield Cathedral, will be welcomed in September.  He said he was “thrilled” with his appointment.

Liverpool Cathedral, situated on St James Mount, is one of the top tourist attractions in the 2008 City of Culture, welcoming thousands of visitors each year.

Amongst the features at the cathedral is the Tower Experience, where visitors can ascend 154m above the River Mersey to watch the whole of the city below.  From March to October, you can also enjoy the Twilight Tower experience as late as 10 o’clock at night, viewing the sunset over the city.

Visitors are also urged to visit the Lady Chapel which stands at the far south east corner of the cathedral.  Features include ornately carved lettering running around the walls, as well as a 15th century statue of the Virgin Mary by Giovanni Della Robbia.

Of course, Liverpool is lucky enough to have two cathedrals, with the city also boasting Paddy’s Wigwam – or Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, to give it its proper title.  As well as the stunning architecture, visitors can also take a look at the cathedral’s art studio where groups of volunteers work tirelessly to create banners and vestments to adorn the walls of the cathedral.

Art exhibitions are also held on a regular basis, while there are also lots of choral events taking place throughout the year.  This month, for example, you can attend A Mozart Serenade on March 24 at 7.30pm, where clarinetist Jacqueline Thomas will perform three masterpieces conducted by Stephen Pratt.  Tickets cost £8.50, with concessions priced at £6.
Your visits to Liverpool’s impressive cathedrals may form part of a short break to the city where you’ll also take in some of the other attractions that the area has to offer.  Continuing the religious theme, there are lots of other live music events taking place at Easter, including the St Matthew Passion at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on April 4. Alternatively, while you’re in Liverpool you may enjoy A Titanic Murder Mystery at Croxteth Hall just outside the city. This event is being held in commemoration of the 100 year anniversary of the Titanic disaster and is inspired by true events during the fateful voyage.  The evening includes a three course meal with tickets priced at £35.  See www.croxteth.co.uk for more details.

No trip to Liverpool would be complete without a ferry ‘cross the Mersey!  You can take a 50 minute crossing from one of three terminals – Seacombe, Woodside or Pier Head – and you’ll learn all there is to know about this fascinating city through the onboard commentary.

If you need a hotel in Liverpool for your stay, you are bound to find one to suit your needs – there are lots of options in the city centre or its surrounding suburbs.  The city also has a great public transport network if you’re without a car during your trip.  So book your Liverpool hotel now and plan your stay in one of the UK’s most vibrant cities!
