Aire, Highmage’s Plight, an exciting blend of science fiction and fantasy. The author resides in the Washington DC metropolitan area.

Highmage’s Plight is an experiment in creating an evolving online science fiction/fantasy series, which led to the publication of the debut novel of the series by Malachite Quills Publishing.

D.H. Aire, author of Highmage’s Plight, explains, “In a world of digital publishing, I am experimenting. I am seeking to create an evolving series online where readers can interact and make suggested changes to dialog, text, and actions to each book in the series, whether published in ebook form today, or unpublished as the sequels are serialized online.” For example, the first one hundred interested buyers of the Highmage’s Plight ebook are being offered the opportunity to have exclusive access to the online version of the series. Through, the Highmage’s Plight website, which is linked to the resources of, this select group of readers will through their feedback see the ebook they read continue to evolve over time, allowing even dialog to change in the first book of the series. I have spent the last 18 months experimenting with the format using the resources of I have had over 1,000 visitors and collected comments and reviews from the site’s members suggesting changes, ranging from the grammatical, to those about the characters. Mr. Aire states that “in our digital publishing age why should books remain unchanged from the reader’s perspective? Ultimately I plan to offer exclusive character memberships, where readers can serve as the spirit behind a particular character, advising me on potential changes, beginning to end.” D.H. Aire’s science fiction/fantasy novel, Highmage’s Plight, is being offered in a variety of ebook formats after having been serialized online from 2010-2011 on and appearing in the ezine Separate Worlds last year.

Highmage’s Plight is the story of far future archeologist George Bradley, who, computer staff in hand, “envisions” an archeological site which could turn history on its head and falls through an elvin gate. George enters a world where: trolls think they are human; elves believe humans can’t do magic since they don’t have souls; a child of prophecy is dying of a curse; a shape-changer is intent on killing him; a seeress keeps too many secrets; and a loyal ogre struggles to defend a keep against the evil ruling it. This is a world where thousands of years before a starship crash landed, bringing about a war between humanity and elves, which led to the laws of magic defeating those of science. It is also a world where a demon rages, intent on destroying all life, but first it needs its minions to find and kill George. If that wasn’t bad enough, his computer is now rather sarcastic.
