March 15, 2012 - PRLog -- IT goes without saying that 2012 is a huge year for Britain thanks to a summer filled with Jubilee celebrations and a feast of sporting action.

However, it isn’t just Her Royal Highness and Tom Daley making the headlines – the humble tree (of all things) is taking centre stage thanks to a national initiative led by the Woodland Trust.

To mark the Diamond Jubilee, the Trust is in the throws of an ambitious campaign to help people across the UK plant six million trees, collectively known as the ‘Jubilee Woods’ project. Additionally, sixty Diamond Woods will be created for the public to enjoy and to stand as fitting monuments to Her Majesty.

The Trust are already well on the way to meeting their target with over one million trees planted in February alone.

Trees are also the talk of grand events of a very different kind as they are fast becoming a ‘must have’ at wedding ceremonies up and down the country. In fact, not only are wedding trees a stunning decoration for someone’s special day, they can be taken home and replanted, thus contributing towards the Woodland Trust’s final tally.

“People may wrongly assume that trees displayed at weddings are just for show and discarded the following day, when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth,” said a spokesperson from Trees by Design, a Cheshire-based company specialising in multimedia and theatrical event staging. “The beauty of wedding trees is that they look stunning, providing a real focal point for a ceremony or reception, however underneath all the carefully applied décor is a beautiful tree which can be enjoyed for years to come in the garden of a family home.

Trees for sale at a company like ours are not therefore simply a wasteful gimmick to be in use for a day or two, they are a lasting symbol of the love of two people – you can’t get more special than that.”

A Wedding Tree are often used to display memories, mementoes and photos – sometimes dressed by guests – and feature hand-crafted designs using beautiful materials such as gold leaves and crystals. Items hanging from the branches can even be edible and the perfect accompaniment to an indulgent chocolate fountain.

In addition to being the UK’s leading wedding and event dressing company, Trees by Design also offer trees for hire and are specialists in adding that ‘wow factor’ to events of all sizes. They create bespoke audio-visual effects for a wide variety of events, including proms, balls, weddings, conferences, fashion events and product launches.
