Former Virginia Worker’s Compensation Commissioner Joins Ashcraft and Gerel
Former Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Virginia R. Diamond has joined DC/Maryland/Virginia law firm Ashcraft and Gerel.
March 13, 2012 - PRLog -- Former Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Virginia R. Diamond joined Ashcraft & Gerel, a law firm serving Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, on Tuesday, February 22. Diamond will continue to serve the greater Virginia area at Ashcraft & Gerel’s Virginia Office.
Ms. Diamond ended her career as Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commissioner in December 2011. Upon her resignation, the Virginia General Assembly commended Diamond on her exceptional 17 years of public service by adopting a joint house resolution.
“Ms. Diamond served with great distinction and a strong commitment to excellence to ensure the fair administration of claims,” reads Joint House Resolution no. 234.
The Virginia General Assembly thanked Diamond for her strong leadership serving as chair qpgfh of the commission for two terms, from July 1, 1997 to June 30, 2000, and from July 1, 2006 to June 30, 2009.
In addition to her long time served as commissioner, Diamond has also served as an organizer for the International Ladies Garment Workers union in both Virginia and North Carolina, and assistant organizing director for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations, or AFL-CIO.
Ms. Diamond has acted as counsel for a number of other organizations, including the Virginia AFL-CIO, the Service Employees International Union, and the Amalgamated Bank. She has also written several noted publications while teaching organizing and labor law at the National Labor College.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Yale University and studied at the University of Paris. She did her graduate studies at Columbia University and Cambridge University. Diamond finished her law degree at the University of Virginia School of Law.
