A new study on the growth of smart cities estimates that investments in smart cities will increase fivefold over the next five years. The smart city concept is gaining momentum in the Middle East with major smart cities projects under development in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE such as the Qatar Energy City, Doha International Airport, U City, The King Abdullah Economic City, The King Abdullah Makkah Construction Project, The Information Technology Communications Complex and Masdar City.
