March 12, 2012 - PRLog -- Columbia graduate, former Miss Black New York, Tulane graduate student, and the founder of her own non-profit organization (, Shadé Ashani to release her debut book, a memoir In Search of my Father.  Shadé says, “This is my story but it’s also our story; it’s time for us as a society to recognize the importance of the father in a child’s life.” Through her sharing of her life’s trials and tribulations she hopes to open society’s eyes to several ideas: No means no, why don’t we teach our sons not to attack, and to men and women the importance of fatherhood.

“This is my life as I remember it. My reality, my distorted perspective through the lens of trauma. My sparkling joys and darkest, most painful miseries. My secrets and my fall from grace into a rape treatment facility and the unbelievably difficult climb through depression and anorexia back to self-love and faith. My father used to say that there simply isn't enough time in life to make all the mistakes in the world ourselves; we must learn from each other if we wish to advance as a human race. In response, I offer, In Search of My Father, hoping that others might be able to see themselves in me, accept their fathers even sooner than I did and truly heal. We can't love anyone, surely not ourselves, until we do. This is my story and above all else, the truth of a broken little girl who grew into a compassionate young woman—one who spent far too much time in search of her father.”

Shadé will begin a nationwide speaking tour regarding the epidemic of sexual assault in our country and how issues like PTSD and absent fathers compound this problem. “We believe we will hit a nerve on the topic of untreated sexual assault and the resulting depression and encourage women to seek treatment,” said Shadé; “we envision this story to be a wave of healing over an increasingly fatherless nation.”

Copies are available from,, local book stores and other online retailers.
