Radio Controlled Alarm Clocks are Accurate
Radio controlled alarm clocks are accurate and reliable and synchronise their time with the national time signal.

One of the most accurate and reliable kinds of alarm clocks are radio controlled. They work by synchronising their time with a radio signal which transmit’s the correct time. In the UK this radio signal comes from Cumbria and is tuned into an extremely accurate atomic clock. The main benefit of radio controlled alarm clocks is that you do not need to set the time, as the clock will automatically pick up the signal and adjust its time by itself. The other benefit is that radio controlled alarm clocks also adjust the time when the time shifts during the seasons, I.e. when British summer time ends, the clocks move by an hour, this would automatically be done by these types of alarm clocks.
All radio controlled alarm clocksin the UK, pick up their time from NPL , which is a radio signal broadcast from the Anthorn radio station near Anthorn, Cumbria which serves as the United Kingdom's national time reference. The time signal is derived from three atomic clocks installed at the transmitter site, and is based on time standards maintained by the UK's National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in Teddington. The service is provided by Babcock International (with which former providers VT Communications merged) under licence from the NPL and is funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills.
The signal, also known as the MSF signal (and formerly the Rugby clock) is broadcast at a highly-accurate frequency of 60 kHz and can be received throughout the UK, and in much of northern and western Europe. The signal’s carrier frequency is maintained at 60 kHz to within 2 parts in 1012, controlled by caesium atomic clocks at the radio station.
Its important for people to check which radio signal their alarm clock is tuned into. Virtually all radio controlled alarm clocks in the UK are automatically set to the NPL, however if you purchased a radio alarm clock from Germany, France, or most other European countries these would be tuned into their own national signal, so if you tried to use it in the UK, it would show the wrong time.

Most alarm clock makers have a range of radio controlled alarm clocks, companies like Acctim and the London Clock Co have a wide range of analogue and digital versions. A really popular radio controlled alarm clock is the Pulse radio controlled alarm clock. The Pulse digital alarm clock from Acctim is radio controlled for split second accuracy so it synchronises its time with the UK’s national time signal from Cumbria. It has a silver and black finish to it and a well laid out and smart digital display which makes ready the time easy and straightforward, it also displays calendar and indoor temperature. The alarm clock has the Smartlite technology which illuminates the display for easy night time viewing.
