Rockville Police Department Relocates

March 8, 2012 - PRLog -- The Rockville Police Department was housed in the City Hall basement for years.  The agency outgrew the location; and the building was no longer able to meet departmental needs.  A larger space better equipped to meet the city’s public safety needs was designed as a result.  Creating a centralized location for the police department would allow the agency to better serve the needs of the public.  

The $8.6 million adaptive reuse project consists of two buildings that will house all of the individual public safety entities.  For the new police headquarters, the city opted to make use of an old post office building, incorporating into the design a new 14,000- square-foot annex.   The completed structure will accommodate the current staff, allowing for 10 percent growth in future staffing needs.  

Green roofing and eco-friendly cladding were selected for the project.  MetalTech-USA fabricated the zinc Flat Lock panels for the project.  Zinc Flat Lock panels with a blue gray finish and a thickness of 0.8mm/22-GA were used to clad the new building.  MetalTech-USA also provided the water resistive air barrier membrane to support the zinc panel system.

Project Manager Patrick Wheble explains the performance requirements for the structure.  “The client wanted to ensure that the ongoing maintenance for the zinc Flat Lock system would be minimal.”  Wheble further discusses the advantages of working with zinc systems.  “The natural patina that develops on the Flat Lock panel over time extends the service life of the cladding.”

The project is scheduled for completion in 2012.
