Haybridge school Choose Extricom to overcome its Challenging Environment and enable BYOD strategy
Extricom, a developer of enterprise wireless LAN that provides seamless mobility and high throughput with their patented Channel Blanket™ architecture have gained further success in the UK education sector with Haybridge High School and Sixth Form.
When a school is described by Ofsted Inspectors as being ‘a very successful mix of innovation and traditional values, personalization and collaboration, open enjoyment and high achievement’
Network and Communications Manager at Haybridge, Paul Willetts, commented ‘The most interesting qualities that surround the Extricom technology reside in its blanket topology, its centralized switch management and its high-density capabilities. These highlights, together with the outstanding support provided by Extricom from the offset mean that I would happily install Extricom at any school. It’s built to succeed and fundamentally, it simply just works’.
Full campus deployment was required, across several acres of disjointed 2 and 3 storey buildings, some brick and breeze block but mostly built from reinforced concrete and internal metal walls with leaded windows. In additional, extensive portacabins and outbuildings, a sizeable playing field and a centralized open ‘quadrangle’
At the heart of the Extricom solution is a simple yet powerful idea: eliminate the concept of cell-planning, and replace it with Channel Blanket™ architecture. In the Channel Blanket, each Wi-Fi radio channel is used on every access point to create continuous "blankets" of coverage. The sophisticated Extricom WLAN Switch tightly controls a set of multi-radio 802.11 a/b/g/n UltraThin Access Points (APs), to deliver a series of industry firsts.
Paul added ‘the criticality of seamless connectivity and always-on performance is immeasurable. Lessons are planned around the wireless – fact. Since the Extricom deployment, staff are more confident and reliability was key to creating that confidence. Rapport has improved between staff and students and every staff member has bought into the benefits the wireless brings to the school. Every lesson has become more creative and overall results have been quite surprising. We now actively encourage students to bring their own devices and with the integration of the Frog system, better communication has evolved considerably.’
