Haybridge school Choose Extricom to overcome its Challenging Environment and enable BYOD strategy

When a school is described by Ofsted Inspectors as being ‘a very successful mix of innovation and traditional values, personalization and collaboration, open enjoyment and high achievement’ the motivation for both faculty and the student body to maintain and exceed expectations is high. With a recent move to become an Academy and the additional freedoms available to further support the school’s ambitions, a robust wireless LAN solution to enable the school’s network team to implement a campus-wide BYOD strategy became an essential part of the school’s aim to help students succeed both personally and academically.

Full campus deployment was required, across several acres of disjointed 2 and 3 storey buildings, some brick and breeze block but mostly built from reinforced concrete and internal metal walls with leaded windows. In additional, extensive portacabins and outbuildings, a sizeable playing field and a centralized open ‘quadrangle’ space were to enjoy coverage. It was a typical education environment that needed to fully embrace flexible learning and the use of hand held devices, iPads, smartphones and netbooks. With over 1250 students, 200 staff and additional guests requiring connection as well as over 200 application titles in regular use across all subjects including 2D and 3D design, languages, MyMaths, MyWorks and SAM learning, the wireless deployment radically changed the way the school operated.
