Royal Melbourne Wine Show - Appointment of new Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Wine Show Committee

The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV) CEO, Mark O’Sullivan, is pleased to announce Phil Sexton has been appointed Chairman of the Royal Melbourne Wine Show (RMWS) Committee.

Comprised of representatives from the wine industry, the RMWS Committee is charged with ensuring the RMWS remains the most relevant and important wine awards in the country by continually being at the forefront of wine style evolution and winemaking trends.

Sexton, who has been on the RMWS committee since 2008 replaces Stephen Shelmerdine as Chairman who held the reigns for seven years before resigning after last year’s Wine Show which included awarding the 50th Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy.

Phil Sexton says he is delighted to take on the role of chairing the committee. “The business of winemaking is constantly evolving and it is rewarding to be part of a wine show that listens to industry, takes feedback and is continually working to improve the value it offers wine industry exhibitors. Additionally, it’s an exciting time to be at the helm as the committee includes four new appointments.”

Sexton is well known as the founder of Matilda Bay Brewing Company in Western Australia, Devil’s Lair in Margaret River and nowadays Giant Steps/Innocent Bystander in Victoria’s Yarra Valley.
