Whitetail Habitat Design & Deer Management

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Whitetail Habitat Design was started as a way to compile all of the hunting property improvement methods that I've researched and implemented or wanted to implement on my hunting land.  Well unfortunately, my hunting land was just sold to someone else and so I'm starting back at square one.  However, whitetail habitat design is something that I fell in love with.  It is more than just deer hunting as it is improving your hunting property in a way that attracts and holds more deer as well as developing better hunting opportunities when we're afield.

Deer management is another important factor that plays a role as part of your overall whitetail habitat design.  So, we'll also post articles about different ways that the small land owner can implement to help manage his local deer population.  As deer are free to roam wherever they please, we can only do so much which means that some of these methods will include the development of local co-ops which are groups of like-minded hunters.

Many of the habitat design elements that should be included in your overall design program should include food plots, bedding areas, hinge cutting, funnel creation, sanctuaries, water sources, and "dead" zones.  Your property may need all of these features, but perhaps it already has some natural features built-in while only a few of the others are needed.

There is also a flow that needs to be found throughout your property as it must also work in conjunction with your neighbors properties.  Entry and exit routes to your stands, wind directions, thermals, and visual obstructions are some of the other mandatory components of a well-developed hunting property design.

It is amazing the amount of time that I put into developing our property before it was sold.  Many of the improvements that we'd done were still in their infant stages and didn't have a chance to blossom.  One of the positive notes about all of my time spent developing my whitetail habitat is the trials and errors that I went through.  It also made me realize just how much time it takes for each stage of development.  This has given me great perspective on how to prioritize implementation of different features given that the vast majority of us are making these improvements in our limited amount of spare time.

So, thanks for checking us out.  I've got an endless amount of great ideas in mind for this site and will continue to develop it along with adding many new features to become an authoritative source for whitetail habitat design.  Check back soon as we'll be offering actual whitetail habitat design packages that you can implement on your property.  Adios until next time.  Bookmark us at http://www.whitetailhabitatdesign.com.
