Girls4Science to celebrate Women in STEM at Women’s History Month Reception
Girls4Sience (G4S), Chicago’s only all girls science initiative, will host its 1st annual Women’s History Month reception featuring nationally recognized women in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) on March 8.
Girls4Science was founded in 2008 by a parent, Jackie Lomax, to recognize the accomplishments of women in STEM and to provide hands on enrichment programs for girls 10-18 years old. G4S accomplishes its mission by offering free six-week Saturday Science Academy courses at Chicago’s city colleges. To date, more than 200 girls have participated in G4S programs.
“We are extremely proud of how this organization has grown over the past four years”, said Lomax. We realize that proficiency in the STEM fields is paramount to our success as a country. We cannot allow African American girls to fall behind in these critical areas, when they only need mentors and role models to show them how to be successful”
