KidSpirit Online Empowers Youth to Share Views on Education in Spring Issue

Teens discuss school, educational methods, and the learning process in award-winning KidSpirit Magazine's new issue

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Brooklyn, New York, March 6, 2012—What do teens think about school? What educational methods are most nourishing to them? Should education be result or process oriented? Teens across the country explore these questions and more in the new issue, “A Lens on Learning,” launching this week, from award-winning KidSpirit Magazine (www.kidspiritonline.com).

The first articles in the issue (whose content is rolled out weekly over the quarter), examine education from a variety of perspectives. In the Big Question, teen Vidushi Sharma examines what motivates students to learn, and what she believes makes education fulfilling. In “Notes from a Tiger Daughter,” a Chinese-American contributor explores the pros and cons of “Tiger Mom” parenting and how it has affected her approach to learning. In addition to original poetry and Awesome Moments, the issue also features a teen writer’s review of Race to Nowhere, a film that examines the role of the American culture of achievement in education today.

Other articles that will be published at KidSpirit throughout the spring quarter, include an in depth look at character education, and the incredible story of Nilab Nusrat, an Afghan girl with a dream to be educated in the United States so that she can return to help her country. In PerSpectives, KidSpirit’s column devoted to an adult writer, Dr. Arthur Zajonc, president of the Mind and Life Institute and director of the Center for Contemplative Mind, will share his view on contemplative practice in education. And in KidSpirit’s brand new Global Beat column, kids offer fresh insight on how community is built in schools around the globe.

KidSpirit invites teachers, youth groups, and libraries to visit the website throughout the spring to read these fascinating reflections on education and learning, and to encourage students to join us in conversation about their own learning experiences on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.
