A New Kind of Spring Run Event Debuts to Support the Cancer Support Community of Atlanta

Springtime Bop 5K Event Provides Fun for All Ages and Abilities

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Run races have seen record numbers of participants since 2009 (Running USA). As increasing numbers of participants have joined in races ranging from 5K to marathon length, a new kind of run event has emerged. Called a “Gateway Race,” these events offer something for every type of participant, whether it is a trained runner seeking to break the 21-minute mark, or a first time race participant looking for a fun, healthy way to spend a morning.

On April 29, Atlanta will see an event of this kind, with the first annual Cancer Support Community of Atlanta Springtime Bop 5K.

“We’re excited to put on an event that encourages health and activity for people of all ages and athletic levels,” said Christy Andrews, Executive Director for the Cancer Support Community of Atlanta. “Not only will the event raise awareness and funds for our impactful program; it will provide a fun way for families to celebrate a glorious Atlanta Spring morning.”

The Springtime Bop 5K will include special touches during and after the race. Serious runners will compete for overall and age group awards, including prizes from sponsor partner Fleet Feet Sandy Springs.  Children will receive fun headband boppers and ribbons for participation  and adults will receive a quality event tee shirt. The post-race event will feature a tot trot and a DJ spinning music and leading participants in dancing and games. Mile marker inspiration and water stops along the race route will keep participants ‘bopping.’ Great food and jumpies will round out the post-race event.

A variety of participation options are available, including the 5K race, a one-mile walk or run, team or individual registration, and even cheering section and phantom registrations – through which anyone can participate, support the Cancer Support Community and receive a race tee shirt without having to run. All participants can run, walk or cheer in honor or memory of a loved one who has battled cancer. Children under five run free. Early registration rates are only $20 until March 31, and are $25 after April 1 or on race day.

The event will take place at 8:00 am on Sunday, April 29 at Fleet Feet Sandy Springs  (224 Johnson Ferry Road, Sandy Springs, GA 30328). For more information, or to register or sponsor this unique event, visit the Springtime Bop 5K site at http://www.springtimebop5k.kintera.org.
