MCM Acquisitions Discovers Michael Jackson Catalogue Stolen from Sony.

Sony has admitted that a number of unreleased Michael Jackson tracks that the late artist recorded have been stolen after their website was hacked. MCM Acquisitions looks at the spiraling problem of internet hacking.

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Sony has revealed that a number of previously unheard tracks have been stolen in a massive online attack on its catalogue. Though the company has not revealed what tracks have been stolen or the amount, MCM Acquisitions understand that Jackson had recorded a host of duets with famous artists that include Freddie Mercury and Will.i.am. This is the second time that Sony has seen their network hacked. In April 2011 their Playstation Network was broken into and the personal details of up to 70 million gamers may have been stolen. It is believed that the loss of the Jackson tracks happened not long after the hack on Playstation but it has only been revealed recently.

MCM Acquisitions, a customer acquisitions company which specializes in outsource sales for entertainment clients, is well aware that this is a growing problem. Managing Director of the company, Abdi Mahamed, believes hacking is starting to spiral out of control, “Hackers are becoming smarter and smarter and companies like Sony are struggling to keep their networks safe and secure from them. It is becoming a situation now whereby anything you want kept completely safe, is going to need to be stored off-line.” Two British men have been charged with computer misuse and copyright offences. They were arrested last May and are due to stand trial in January 2013.

MCM Acquisitions asks, just how widespread is the problem? Well, the FBI announced recently that cybercrime is now more widespread than narcotics. They claim that the average company’s computer infrastructure is attacked nearly 60,000 times every day. There have been 354 million reported data privacy breaches over the past five years in the United States alone.

Mr. Mahamed believes that this is more than music piracy, “Whilst illegally downloading music and films is a huge problem, this goes far beyond this. The skills that these hackers possess may only have been used to hack for music at this time but they would be used for far more serious information in the future.”

Sony paid £158m to Michael Jackson’s estate to have the sole rights to his remaining songs for the next seven years. If they have lost these for good then it could cost them a huge amount of money. MCM Acquisitions hopes that this story reminds businesses, no matter how large or small, to take the utmost care when putting their information online.
