March 5, 2012 - PRLog -- "The Varsity Sport for the Mind," FRC combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand", hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It's as close to "Real-World Engineering" as a student can get.

Each year, teams of high school students compete to build robots weighing up to 120 pounds (54 kg), not including battery and bumpers, that can complete a task, which changes every year. Teams are given a standard set of parts and the game details at the beginning of January and are given six weeks to construct a competitive robot, that can operate autonomously as well as when guided by wireless controls, to accomplish the game's tasks.

FIRST redefines winning for these students because they are rewarded for excellence in design, demonstrated team spirit, gracious professionalism and maturity, and the ability to overcome obstacles. Scoring the most points is a secondary goal. Winning means building partnerships that last.

What is unique about the FRC program?

◦It is a sport where the participants play with the pros and learn from them
◦Designing and building a robot is a fascinating real-world professional experience
◦Competing on stage brings participants as much excitement and adrenaline rush as conventional varsity tournaments
◦The game rules are a surprise every year

In Georgia, 30+ high school teams participate in FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Teams come from around the state, as well as many surrounding states, to compete each year at the Peachtree Regional event held each year at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.

Hampton Inn Mall of Georgia is the perfect FIRST hotel.  Only minutes away from the Gwinnett Center the hotel offers free hot buffett style breakfast for all guests and free high speed internet access.
