March 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Christy Leming, principal of Marian Middle School, was recently named a 2011-2012 Peabody Logos Leader in Education. The honor recognizes educators within the St. Louis area who foster the future workforce and prepare students to compete in a global marketplace. The award comes with a $1,000 cash prize.

“It's an honor to be recognized. I'm so proud of all the work that's happening at Marian Middle School,” said Leming, of St. Louis, who has served as principal at Marian since 2006. “Our staff and students are working hard to ensure that our young women have access to the best quality education possible, regardless of ability to pay. This award only draws the spotlight to all the efforts that are happening here on behalf of our students.”
Maureen A. Herrmann, president of Marian Middle School, which has an enrollment of around 70 students, said Leming brings her A-game every day and continuously shows her commitment to the students, as well as the school’s mission.

“She is an outstanding mentor and teacher for our girls,” Herrmann said. “Her energy, creativity and unyielding support are contagious. We are lucky to have her here.” Leming first joined Marian’s staff in 2003 as an English teacher and Gateway Vincentian volunteer. Prior to joining Marian, she received her undergraduate degree from Murray State University in Paducah, Ky. and a master's degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Ill.
Leming is also a graduate of the Mary Ann Remick Leadership Program, an intensive 26-month program of the Alliance for Catholic Education. Program participants undergo an intensive formation and preparation program designed to foster leadership in Catholic education and administered by the University of Notre Dame. Upon completion, Leming received a Master of Arts degree in educational administration. She spends her summer breaks at a Catholic school in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia where she trains teachers and teaches English instruction.
