March 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Keynote speaker Margaret Spence will kick off the 2012 Ohio Safety & Health Congress – Well at Home. Safe at Work Conference in Columbus, Ohio on March 28th, 2012.

Her presentation, Changing the Paradigm From Workers Comp Claimant to Valued Employee will challenge stakeholders in the workers compensation and safety arena to view injured workers post-accident ability not disability, while advocating for return to work or stay at work programs. Her presentation will answer the age old question asked by all stakeholders managing workers compensation injuries - Can injured employees return to work successfully?

Margaret says, “The answer is yes, done right return to work programs benefit the employee and the employer. The reality for stakeholders, everyone is not sold on this argument, employers are balancing the economic benefits of transitional duty programs against the argument that these programs are ineffective. There are those who question why we need a “special” program to help injured employees return to work. The challenge for stakeholders, how do we continue to champion the return to work cause?”

To change the paradigm we must also be willing to answer three fundamental questions:

•   Does the employees’ value proposition change after they have an injury?
•   Can we see the employees’ ability to do the job or are we stuck on the list of inabilities assigned by their doctor?
•   Do we have the vision to create and maintain a proactive road map that facilitates injured employees returning to work as productive members of our team?

The Ohio Safety Congress & Expo (OSC12) is the largest and longest-running occupational safety, health and workers’ compensation event in the Midwest. More than 5,000 business representatives will gather from March 27 to 29 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center for dynamic keynote speakers, a variety of educational sessions and displays of occupational safety and health products.

The theme of this year’s program, “Well at Home, Safe at Work.”  the Conference goals to:
•   Improve worker health and productivity;
•   Prevent work force injuries and illnesses;
•   Reduce workers’ compensation costs;
•   Identify solutions for hazardous situations; and
•   Provide cost-effective, multidisciplinary training and professional development.
