The Chorus is taking a fresh look at old standards, from Verdi to Gershwin to Manhattan Transfer, with musicians accompanying them.
By: BIG ARTS For the concert, the Community Chorus is taking a fresh look at old standards, singing favorites from Verdi to Gershwin to Manhattan Transfer. The 80-voice chorus will be accompanied by musicians hailing from New York City and locals from Island Jazz. They will perform classical, jazz, gospel, and folk music. The concert will present the premier performance of an original arrangement of Shenandoah, arranged by Greg Brown, commissioned by Dick and Judy Brown. The medley of tunes by Music of George and Ira Gershwin, "A Gershwin Portrait," is from an arrangement by Mac Huff which had been out of print, the Chorus requested a reprint from the publishers, with the jazz band charts.
