March 1, 2012 - PRLog -- Students from Treloar’s, a school which specializes in educating young people with physical disabilities, have teamed up with some Drama students from Winchester University with the theme of their sessions being poverty in India and Africa.
The sessions began as a way to encourage creative thinking and dramatic interaction in the Treloar’s students and have since turned into an event where the students will take part in a production in Winchester to raise funds to help children in Uganda.
The sessions were aimed at getting Treloar’s students thinking creatively and sensitively about life in other places. A typical session would include a warm up then a discussion of ideas such as what life is like for young people who pick litter in India to earn a living and asking them to think about it from both the young person’s perspective as well as the employer’s, they would then act out the different scenarios that they discussed.
The projected was further boosted by a talk from former Treloar’s teacher Kate Tolhurst who works for a Ugandan charity called The New Hope Centre which focuses on giving family style support to orphaned, abandoned and single parent families in Uganda.
The New Hope Centre was founded in 1986 by Jay Dangers and JonnesBakimi who have since brought hope to hundreds of Ugandan children via their four ministries: Kasana Children’s Center, Kobwin Children’s Center, Musana Camps, and 107.8 Musana FM radio.
The charity has a special needs program which, much like Treloar’s, is dedicated to equipping individuals with disabilities  with basic life skills and all that they will need to fulfil their full potential. They also provide support and education to the families of those affected by disability.
As well as putting on the production the Treloar’s students have also decided to sell wristbands printed with the words “Treloar’s for New Hope” which are available to buy around the Campus.
