Follow on Google News | Severn Trent De Nora Wins Contract from EMAS to Supply BALPURE® for Pipelay VesselThe Type-Approved BALPURE® ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has been selected for use by EMAS on the “Lewek Constellation”, a 22,000-dwt pipelay vessel being built in Vung Tau, Vietnam.
EMAS, headquartered in Singapore, is a global offshore oil and gas specialist providing marine, construction, production and well services to multinational, national and independent oil, gas and renewable energy companies. BALPURE is the first ballast water treatment system ordered by EMAS for use on any of its vessels. After undergoing a rigorous review process, BALPURE proved to offer superior technology and flexibility of installation over other systems evaluated by EMAS. BALPURE, which utilizes electrolytic disinfection technology, is a reliable and economical ballast water treatment approach which has been proven to surpass IMO D-2 standards by tenfold. BALPURE’s slip stream treatment approach, where approximately one percent of the total ballast water flow is used to generate the hypochlorite disinfection solution, enables remote mounting away from critical ballast systems. The slip stream approach, coupled with a design that requires treatment only during the uptake of the ballasting cycle, requires significantly less electric power when compared to competing technologies – ensuring low operational costs. The BALPURE system ordered by EMAS will be supplied in sub-assemblies for installation in the pipelay vessel by April 2012. The system is capable of treating ballast water flow rates of up to 2,000 m3/h. “In recent months, BALPURE has been selected for use across different vessel types, attesting to its flexibility and suitability for the diverse marine market,” said Jim McGillivray, BALPURE general manager for Severn Trent De Nora. “We have just completed installing BALPURE on two Japanese built and owned bulk carriers in January 2012 and have a healthy pipeline of enquiries for our system. We are expecting a very busy year ahead.” BALPURE offers a virtually maintenance- Severn Trent De Nora will be showcasing the BALPURE system at the Asia Pacific Maritime exhibition (stand J16), 14 – 16 March 2012 at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. An actual unit of the BALPURE BP1000 system will be showcased at Taiko Kikai Industries Co Ltd’s exhibition booth at Sea Japan (stand JPN-031), 18 – 20 April at the Tokyo BIG SIGHT Exhibition Center. Taiko Kikai Industries Co Ltd, along with Nisso Shoji Co, represent and promote the BALPURE system product line to the Japanese marine market. # # # For over 35 years, Severn Trent De Nora has been designing, manufacturing and offering innovative electrolytic disinfection treatment solutions to the marine and offshore markets.
