February Ending with Extreme Weather

Feb. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- The Central Plains have been hit with tornadoes. From Missouri to Kentucky tornadoes have set down or tornado watches are in effect.

Branson Missouri, a tourist mecca, experienced  twisters. For the first time in February, Nebraska reported tornadoes.  In Tornado Alley there has been 700 reports of wind gusts over 100mph. Until 1pm, there are tornado watches for Ohio and Kentucky.

Current blizzard conditions in the Dakotas will effect the weather in the Northeast. Eight  inches of snow by Thursday is predicted for upstate New York. Boston will see snow. Northern Pennsylvania to southern New York will experience snow changing to ice than rain. The ice and rain may accumulate on several inches of snow. Rain and possible thunder is predicted for southern Pennsylvania to Virginia.

The La Nina effect, which has affected the US and is blamed for the severe drought of 2011, will last into the spring of 2012. The US Climate Prediction Center (CPC), predicts that it will weaken and dissipate between March and May.
