Follow on Google News | Main Line Students Make Sandwiches for Food CupboardFreshmen from Main Line private schools Devon Prep and Notre Dame Academy attend a Sandwich Social to helps stock a local food cupboard.
Gathering in Devon Prep’s dining hall the ninth graders used donated bread, grape jelly and smooth peanut butter to make nearly 300 sandwiches. Each sandwich was cut in half and stored in individual bags. Although the process was sometimes messy the end result was well worth it as new friendships were made along with all those sandwiches. The food was donated to the Patrician Society’s Emergency Food Cupboard in Norristown, a non-sectarian food pantry which serves more nearly 1,300 area families. The sandwich making social was sponsored by Devon Prep’s Christian Action Program (CAP) which provides students with the opportunity to care for and help those less fortunate. The students involved in CAP also run a Thanksgiving food drive, sponsor fundraisers for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, collect school supplies for inner-city students in need, host a Christmas party for residents of St. Edmond's Home, participate in area fundraisers, and run clothing drives for those in need.
