Qualstar Announces New Rack Mount Tape Library

Dubai, United Arab Emirates — February 28, 2012 -- Qualstar Corporation, an innovator in automated tape storage solutions, announced a new model for its popular RLS family of rack mount tape libraries this CABSAT 2012 Exhibition. The new RLS-8350 delivers the benefits and features of Qualstar's recently introduced RLS-8500 Series in a compact, rack-optimized architecture.
The new RLS-8350 tape library stores 75 terabytes (native) of data in just 10 inches (27 cm) of space, delivering high storage density for customers using industry-standard equipment racks. The RLS-8350 houses up to three, encryption-enabled LTO 5 tape drives. The tape drives are user-installable in a few minutes, and are automatically discovered by the library making upgrades simple and fast.
Using typical compression techniques, the RLS-8350 capacity can exceed 150 terabytes, and transfer over 3 terabytes of data per hour. A four-slot I/O port is standard, making it easy to import and export of tapes for offsite data security. N+1 power is optional.
The RLS-8350 features built-in library-based encryption key management to protect against data loss while tapes are in transit to external disaster protection sites or other remote locations. User-specified keys enable the powerful AES 256-bit encryption capability built into every LTO tape drive. This simple, easy-to-use, library-based encryption key manager allows administrators to assign a separate key to the tapes in each partition.
The RLS-8350 incorporates Q-Link, the web browser based remote library manager that enables administrators to configure, upgrade, and monitor an RLS library locally via a company's intranet, or over the Internet from anywhere in the world. Q-Link extends the capabilities of the RLS-8350's comprehensive color touch screen front panel menu system.
