Feb. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- New Delhi, 24 Feb, 2012: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Indore will join India's leading companies, research institutes and universities after it signed MOU with Deakin University.

The Indian Institute of Management Indore is the sixth in the prestigious IIM family of management schools established by the Government of India.

The institute was set up in Indore to give an impetus to management education in central India. Its flagship Post Graduate programme is benchmarked against the similar programmes of the best business schools in the world.

Its proximity to the fastest growing industrial belt in India and the presence of Special Economic Zones around Indore allow the Institute to provide hands-on experience for its students and enable industry to make use of the wealth of management expertise available in the institute.

Deakin University’s Vice Chancellor Professor Jane den Hollander welcomed the high profile partnership, part of Deakin’s India Research Initiative, saying it would draw on the strengths of both institutions.

“There is a high degree of research alignment between Deakin’s Faculty of Business and Law and IIM, Indore in the areas Marketing, Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Information Systems and HR Management.

“This bodes well for a feature of the partnership where, via a PhD scholarship, an Indian student researcher will be given the opportunity to pursue a research project jointly supervised by faculty in both institutions.”

Professor Jane Den Hollander said both institutions also had well-established and highly regarded MBA programs.

“A key requirement for managers is an international outlook and Deakin highly values the opportunities this partnership presents for faculty and students to gain experience of the vibrant Indian economy and society,” she said.

“We look forward to providing IIM-Indore faculty and students with a complementary experience of Australian business and our culturally-diverse society.”

Professor Jane Den Hollander said other ventures to emerge from the partnership could include short-term executive development and training programs and consultancy projects.

“Visiting scholars from both sides will be funded to work with faculty in the partner institution,” she said.

“This two way exchange of researchers and educators is the best way to build enduring relationships.

“Deakin is very active in India and our partnerships in the country received the highest praise from Australia’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA),” she said.

The Deakin India Research Initiative (DIRI) is an expansion of Deakin University's ongoing development of research models which bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Current DIRI partners include Biocon, BigTec, VIMTA, Evolva, Shankara Nethralaya - Eye Research Foundation, The Energy Research Institute and TATA Steel, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Indian Institute of Technology and the National Institute Technology.
