Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The  inaugural Global Human Asset Expansion In Mining concluded successfully on 16th February 2012 in London. The event was duly supported by  Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR) and the Mining HR and Recruitment Specialists Association (MHRRSA). The event witnessed senior HR professionals representing companies like Franzefoss Minerals AB, Minefinders Corporation Ltd, Ma’aden Gold & Base Metals Company, FQM Kevitsa Mining Oy, Climax Molybdenum,AEL Mining Services, Towers Watson Limited and many more.

The event saw delegates representing 30 countries and 50 leading organizations across the globe to discuss the business risks and most prominent issues currently faced by employees in mining sector. The key challenges were discovered and analysed through discussions which witnessed top HR leaders of the mining industry and from the analysis of organizations participating from around the world.

Line up of speakers include IAMGold Corporation, Mining Industry Human Resources Council (MiHR), Barrick Gold Corporation, Inmet Mining, Rio Tinto, De Beers, International Labour Organization (ILO), PT Antam (persero) Tbk, Great Basin Gold Limited, Hudbay Minerals,  Peabody Energy, Kinross Gold Corporation, First Quantum Minerals Ltd, ArcelorMittal, Anglo American to mention a few.

Day one was chaired by Lisa Zangari, Senior Vice President - Human Resources at IAMGOLD Corporation, Canada,  focused on some of the most important issues faced within the industry today. Some key areas that were also explored were government support to mining firms to attract work force towards the sector, creating a culture for change and implementing changing models, employee retention a major challenge, executive compensation – governance and transparency and purpose beyond borders relocation, immigration or fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) workforce. The second half of the day highlighted key strategies for recruitment, sourcing and performance appraisal with leading experts.

Day two was chaired by Chris Gibbs, Senior Director - Organisational Development at Barrick Gold Corporation - Canada that interactive panel discussion analysed on significant issues of partnership also with academic institutions for mine workers and labour unions in the mining industry. There was an interesting case study on employee engagement and motivation.

85% of attendees expressed desire that the Global Human Asset Expansion In Mining should be repeated next year with due diligence. The exhibitors - Accenture, Cowan International, VecTrance, PageUp People were overwhelmed with the response and had surpassed their expectations. The conference provided a great networking opportunity for human resource professionals and the chance to hear how companies go about their strategic workforce planning successfully.
