Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The Falstaff Experience Tudor World museum in the heart of Stratford upon Avon was originally made famous by its reputation as one of England's most haunted buildings. However since owners John and Janet Ford took over the museum in 2008, they revamped the museum, to give it a Tudor narrative. Since then, they have been battling to change people's perceptions of the museum. It is no longer just a night time haunted house attraction, but an important house of historical interest, vital to the landscape and image Stratford wishes to portray.
The success in this has been seen with uptake of school visits. In 2008, the museum took hardly any group bookings at all. However the Tudor narrative began to make it a must for all Primary schools, and in early 2011 the education package was overhauled. A half day visit now includes, a guided tour of the Tudor World museum, a live Tudor Punishment Show and students are able to join the army of Henry VIII and witness a beheading. This product has proved so popular that throughout 2011 the amount of school visits rocketed from 2 or 3 a month to 3  a week. Now in 2012, the museum is regularly hosting 4 school groups a week. To increase the the length of visit, the Falstaff Experience has also begun to offer its tour of Stratford led by William Shakespeare himself as part of the educational package. This means that groups are now spending the whole day with the Falstaff Experience. By focusing on the delivery of an experience that is relevant to the school curriculum the Falstaff Experience is probably Warwickshire most under praised success story. This increase in business has meant the museum have able to invest in employing more staff, increasing the hours of current staff and new costumes. Whilst the majority of group visits are Primary schools, Secondary schools have also regularly enjoy days either studying Tudor history or participating in special themed workshops on Shakespeare's work. Another reason for the success has been the popular youtube advert that has now received over 3000 hits since September. Since January 2012 over 500 children have enjoyed a school visit to the Falstaff Experience Tudor World.
Creative Director Janet Ford said: "I have always had a passion for Tudor history and I knew the narrative of the museum had to be more closely fitting to the Stratford brand. Shakespeare was a Tudor, the Tudors are on the school curriculum and our museum is located in a genuine Tudor building. We believe we now not only compliment the Stratford brand by providing an in-depth look at Tudor society but also add to it by being the only attraction in town to provide guests and school groups with opportunity to meet William Shakespeare himself. Winning the Chiltern Railways Attraction of the Year Award was fantastic, but nothing beats the feeling of seeing the faces on the school children who have clearly been inspired by their day with us.
