24 At-Risk Boys to Receive Warrior Award

Wrestling Team Honors Boys who Competed in Wrestling and Improved Academically and Behaviorally

Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- For months, the gym of Inner City Church has been filled with the sounds of boys knocking each other to the ground. This physical aggression is discouraged at school or home, but it is part of the OKC Youth Wrestling Foundation’s efforts to build champions for tomorrow from boys who otherwise might be pulled into OKC’s growing gang culture. On Thursday, February 23, 2012, 24 of the boys who have met the requirements will receive the team’s Warrior Award.

The Warrior Award is given to boys who participated in the majority of the 2011-2012 season. It acknowledges the hard work of boys who didn’t quit training for the sport that is often described as the most difficult. The leadership helps boys apply the same work ethic to life. Boys are also recognized for participating in the Foundation’s mentoring program, improving their reading skills, and building positive character. Special awards are given to boys selected for their leadership, improvement, sportsmanship, and other qualities.

The Warriors’ awards banquet is being held at LifeChurch at 7800 S. Walker in Oklahoma City, OK. The banquet begins at 6 PM and concludes at approximately 8 PM.
