The Shayler Foundation To Host Our Light: Voice’s of Women Exhibition Fundraising Gala

Feb. 24, 2012 - PRLog -- Well known artist DJ Nina will be adding just the right beat to the evening’s event. In addition, Rice2Go will be catering the event with a varied hors d’oeuvre menu. Lastly, freelance photographer Eliana Pelaggi will be capturing the evening highlights. Ms. Pelaggi has the unique ability to provide the audience a window into the lives of her subjects. The Shayler Foundation is honoured by their support.

The Shayler Foundation will host its first annual International Women’s Day event at Arbeit Gallery from 5:30pm – 9:30pm, Saturday 17 March 2012. The event will serve as a launch for our Safe Birthing Project aimed at helping Ugandan women have a healthy pregnancy and delivery. The gala evening will include an art exhibit titled “Our Light: Voices of Women”, along with a silent auction, live music from DJ Nina, as well as food and cocktails.

The complications leading to a maternal death can occur without warning at any time during pregnancy and childbirth. And for every woman who dies in impoverished circumstances, approximately 20 more suffer injuries, infection and disabilities. Most maternal deaths can be prevented if births are attended by skilled health personnel – doctors, nurses and midwives – who are regularly supervised and have the proper equipment and supplies.

“I am organizing this art exhibit in an effort to raise needed funds for Uganda: Survivor’s Initiative’s Safe Birthing Project. The mission to help women in developing countries prevent avoidable medical complications during pregnancy, and aid with the delivery of a healthy baby goes a long way to set both mother and baby on a healthier path.
