School Gets Message of Hope from Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss South Carolina International

Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss South Carolina International visited Washington Elementary School with an inspiring message of hope.  As an ambassador for Communities in Schools, an organization that helps school aged children in Cleveland County stay in school and graduate, Chelsea visited with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in the after school program.

Chelsea told the children about her own struggle with school as she has a learning disability and that she has not allowed it to keep her from reaching her dreams.  She entertained and talked with the kids who all asked very respectful and interesting questions.  "They were so very well behaved and really listened intently!" said Chelsea.  

Chelsea also read a book called When Donkeys Fly by Tega Cay author Ginger Hodge.  The books message is one of inspiration and belief in oneself.  

Cleveland County Communities in Schools is a group of community leaders that help at risk kids to stay in school and graduate.  The organization which is modeled after a national chain was started in Cleveland County in 1991.  Starting with three elementary school sites, the organization has grown to eight elementary, four middle and multiple community programs. The organization's goal is to help and support children all the way through school and beyond in order to be successful.  

Chelsea will also be helping an outreach through Communities in Schools that assists teen mothers to finish school by speaking at their graduation in May.

Mentors-Matter is a non profit founded by Chelsea Rae Gregory, Miss SC International. The program offers workshops, support groups and a website resource that helps students with learning disabilities get into college and be successful in life.
