60 YOUNG SKIPPERS LEAD THE WAY FOR CHARITY!


Children at Roselyon School, Par, have skipped their way to a mammoth fund-raising achievement for charity.

Sixty pupils aged five to 11 took to the ropes to raise nearly £600 for the British Heart Foundation and the Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell.

After weeks of preparation during their PE classes, they enjoyed a special “skipping day” broken into four sections.  These included the “endurance test”, with Alex White skipping the most times – 278 in two minutes – without a break.

The programme also included sequence work, with pairs and trios of skippers, and reel skipping, with up to six children performing with a single rope.  

It was the culmination of weeks of preparation during PE classes and the school liaised with the British Heart Foundation in preparation for the big day, entitled “Jump Rope For Heart.”  

In return, the foundation donated a chest full of skipping ropes to Roselyon, together with a book on how to stay healthy through skipping.

The school gave 80 per cent of money raised to the foundation, with the remainder going to Little Harbour as its choice of local charity.
