By: Matt Fankhauser Founded in 2000, RMIC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that works to correct and prevent the conviction of innocent people in Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. Examining both DNA and non-DNA cases, RMIC provides critical legal services to these individuals, free of charge, by helping them find a way to prove their wrongful imprisonment in court and thereby win restoration of their rights and freedom. RMIC provides its services through a unique program that combines the efforts of trained and supervised law students and local, volunteer attorneys. RMIC currently has an Innocence Clinic at the S.J. Quinney College of Law in Utah and the William S. Boyd School of Law in Nevada. “I am honored to serve on the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center board,” said Alexander. “DNA evidence has demonstrated that our criminal justice system can make mistakes. Without extensive legal assistance from organizations like RMIC, most innocent prisoners will never be able to prove their innocence and win their rightful freedom. This position provides me with the unique opportunity to serve our community and to improve our justice system.” Alexander's legal practice is concentrated in complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on representation of financial institutions. She has defended various institutions in disputes involving federal and state consumer protection statutes and various common law contract and tort, including lender liability, claims. Further, Alexander handles matters that include bad faith lending, Truth in Lending Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act, Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, Home Ownership Equity Protection Act, Nevada's Foreclosure Mediation Program and other assorted claims brought against mortgage lenders, institutions and servicers. She also has vast experience in real estate and construction law, and represents public and private owners, design professionals, general contractors and manufacturers on a variety of needs, including contract negotiation, risk avoidance and allocation, analysis and preparation of construction claims, in addition to arbitration, mediation and litigation of construction disputes.
