Toyota Los Angeles Dealer Presents The Prius C

Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The Prius is by far the most popular and dominant hybrid on the market. It is one of the most efficient rides on the road and achieves nearly 50 mpg. In terms of demographics, the Prius attracts buyers from all sorts of ages, backgrounds and walk of lives. It is equally appealing to young students as well as senior citizens who would like to keep their fuel costs down. The base model is priced at around eighteen thousand dollars. The C made its initial debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

Since the Prius is so popular, it makes sense that Toyota would introduce a more affordable and dynamic version of the best selling car and that vehicle is the Prius C. It is the most smallest and economical version of the original so far. Buyers will be able to select from four trim models. Almost all of the vehicle’s components including the air conditioning and steering will be electric powered.  

The Prius C is a hybrid meaning that is powered by battery power as well as a traditional engine. The battery weighs 68 pounds and holds 0.87 kilowatt per hour. The battery is housed behind the back seats. The traditional engine is a V4 1.5 Liter and provides 99 horsepower. It can travel from zero to sixty in 11.5 seconds. Mileage stands at 46 mpg in the city and 50 mpg on the freeway. These numbers make the Prius C the most efficient hybrid on the market and ahead of its competitors including the Honda Civic hybrid.

The platform of the Prius C is also different from the original but more similar to that of the Toyota Yaris. When it comes to styling, the Prius C is definitely a lot younger and more aggressive than the original. It’s also a lot smaller. The headlights are quite different than the original; they are smaller and edgier. The trunk is pretty spacious; the C offers around 15.1 cubic feet of storage space. The back seats can also be folded down for additional room.

The “C” is mainly aimed at the younger generation also known as “Gen Y”. Most will either be in college or starting out in their careers. It’s funky and updated exterior definitely gives the Prius C a more youthful appeal while still retaining the classic Prius efficiency. Pricing point is another factor which will make this vehicle very appealing to younger buyers. At around $18k this will be the most affordable Prius ever manufactured.
