Feb. 21, 2012 - PRLog -- The Institute for Advanced Medical Education (IAME) is expanding on the success of their regional anesthesia training program by introducing ‘Regional Anesthesia’ a new Facebook group that supports the practice of ultrasound-guided nerve blocks.

The Regional Anesthesia group (found at https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/nerveblock/) connects members of the regional anesthesia team including anesthesiologists, pain management physicians, certified registered nurse anesthetists, block nurses and others interested in ultrasound-guided nerve block. It is an open group designed for the exchange of information and networking. Members can discuss ideas and techniques in addition to posting questions and answers.

Faculty members from The USRA Skills Course, IAME’s ongoing training program, regularly upload videos and answer questions posted to the page. In launching the Regional Anesthesia group Irwin Kuperberg, IAME president said, “We are excited about using social media as an additional way to promote skills acquisition and practice improvement. Facebook’s Regional Anesthesia group provides an exchange of information that is free and immediate.”

IAME launched its regional anesthesia outreach program in 2008. Drawn from nearly two decades of CME experience in ultrasound training The USRA Skills Course offers didactic lectures and physician led hands-on workshops in guided nerve blocks. Since 2008 IAME has hosted 22 offerings of the course around the United States, with nine meetings in 2012 alone. The USRA Skills Course has emerged as one of the most well-known and highly respected training courses in regional anesthesia.
